After Unimpressive Victory, Jets Have a Breather

Earlier Sunday, two of the Jets’ division rivals squeaked out important victories in <a href="http://www.nikeshoefr.com/air-max-ltd-c-9.html">Air Max LTD-&gt;</a> overtime. With their wins, New England improved to 4-1 and Miami to 3-2, meaning the Jets needed to win to stay in first place.

Curious news arrived on the inactive list, which did not contain the All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis. For most of this season, Revis’s injured left hamstring has rendered him abnormally human and even forced him to miss two games.

With a bye week after the Broncos game, it seemed reasonable that Revis would sit out, allowing for two weeks of uninterrupted rest and rehabilitation. Instead, he traveled with the Jets and started against the Broncos.

Denver attacked Revis from the outset. The Broncos took the lead, 17-10, when the rookie receiver <a href="http://www.nikeshoefr.com/air-max-tn-c-10.html">Air Max TN-&gt;</a> Demaryius Thomas beat Revis for a 17-yard touchdown on a fade route in the third quarter. That score was made possible by a long pass (29 yards from Kyle Orton to receiver Brandon Lloyd) and a questionable call (a personal foul on safety Logic dictated that Sanchez was due for a dismal outing. Almost exactly one year earlier, on Oct. 18, 2009, he set a career high with five interceptions against Buffalo.

In the first half Sunday, Sanchez had two passes intercepted and another two potential interceptions dropped. Both interceptions resulted from poor decisions, with throws forced into coverage, as the Broncos confused Sanchez by stacking defenders near the line of scrimmage, then dropping linebackers into coverage.

Sanchez atoned for those miscues, in part, on one drive. The highlight came on the first play of the second quarter, when Sanchez found Braylon Edwards for a 32-yard touchdown on a post route. It was Edwards’s fourth touchdown in the past five games, and it gave the Jets a 7-0 lead. Logic dictated that Sanchez was due for a dismal outing.
